GETTING CLEAR

“Defining Support Groups and The Art of Facilitation.”

In this workshop some of the myths and mysteries around ‘What is a Support Group?’  will be cleared up, examining precisely what defines a Support Group and what differentiates it from other types of groups. We will also examine the art of being a great Support Group facilitator. In keeping with this theme, it investigates what makes a support group facilitator different from other types of leaders and what makes the role of Support Group facilitator so unique.

The workshop will examine the roles and communication skills of a great facilitator, most importantly being an effective listener.  This is not a mysterious process.  It can be broken down into a set of specific and demonstrable skills, called Active Listening!   Whether Active Listening is a new term to you, or you’re an old hand at it, this workshop will be of benefit, as a way to learn a new skill, or as a chance to expand, renew and practice previously learned important skills.

The presence of effective Active Listening is often what best enables a Support Group to bring about positive change for participants!

TOWARDS GOOD PRACTICE

“A good practice model for Self Help and Support Groups Minimum Standards”

Self Help & Support Groups like yours do amazing work! They play an essential role in the community and fill a vital gap in health care provision, by offering people with health (and mental health) issues an affordable and sustainable way to access information, help and understanding.

However, the importance of Self Help & Support Groups is often underestimated, particularly by medical practitioners and other health care professionals.  ConnectGroups has created a recommended set of guidelines, titled “Towards Good Practice’.
This workshop will give you the key to using the resource efficiently, assisting you in ensuring the sustainability of your Support Group and its professionalism, effectiveness and overall quality of service to it’s members.

So, Don’t Be Afraid of Conflict - come and experience the rich lesson that conflict has to teach us!

SUCCESSION PLANNING

“Succession planning is a process for identifying and developing group members with the potential to fill key leadership positions in your group.”

One of the major factors affecting the breaking down and closure of Support Groups is lack of succession planning.   This workshop will address this high risk and provide you with the tools to plan ahead to ensure the sustainability of your Support Group.
