Programs for You

The YWCA Encore program is for women of any age, who have had breast cancer surgery and/or treatment at any time in their lives.  Encore is a specifically designed floor and pool-based gentle exercise program and it is provided in a supportive, non-medical environment.

As well as helping women rebuild flexibility and strength, Encore provides participants with the opportunity to share common experiences and concerns with other women who understand.

At Encore, women not only have fun, make friends and expand their networks, they also acquire new skills, and have the opportunity to further their own personal development and self-esteem.

The program runs either through the day or evening with women attending for 2 hours per week.

The program includes gentle floor and pool-based exercises.  The exercises are designed to improve movement, flexibility and strength.

Women are encouraged to work at their own speed, and to their own ability, and there is no pressure to keep up with others.  Participants do not have to be able to swim and all pools are at a comfortable temperature.

All sessions allow time for relaxation, for information sharing and discussion, as well as informal talk-usually over light refreshments.

YWCA Encore is a free 8 week gentle exercise program and is by enrolment only.

The Act Belong Commit App provides general information and guidance on how people can stay mentally healthy in their everyday lives.

It provides background information on the campaign and includes interactive features that encourage the user to:

Act – be mentally, physically and socially active

Belong- to groups and clubs, keep up friendships and social networks

Commit – to things that bring meaning and purpose to life. Support a good cause, volunteer to help others.

Users can take a self-assessment to rate their Act-Belong-Commit activity levels.

For residents of Western Australia, the app provides the Department of Sport & Recreation’s ‘Find a Club’ tool to find local groups and clubs in their area to join.

It also provides a refined search tool, based on the Act-Belong-Commit website, for users to find local events and activities to get involved in.

Get started and be more mentally healthy today! To download the app, search for ‘Act Belong Commit’ in the ITunes App Store, or follow the link on the Act-Belong-Commit website homepage.
