Bunbury Community Legal Centre
The Bunbury Community Legal Centre is a not for profit organisation which provides free legal advice, assistance, and referrals to financially and socially disadvantaged people living in rural communities within the South West region of WA. The four part-time solicitors employed by the Centre not only provide advice in the Bunbury office but also provide regular Outreach services in Narrogin, Manjimup, Bridgetown, Harvey, Collie, Busselton and Margaret River.
The Centre is also happy to present community legal education sessions to members of those communities. Typical education sessions are in the areas of Family Law, Wills & Estates, and Powers of Attorney and Guardianship.
The Community Mediation Service is part of the Bunbury Community Legal Centre. The Service employs three qualified mediators who provide accredited mediation in family, workplace, neighbourhood and other disputes. As parties involved in family law disputes are generally required to attempt mediation prior to the Family Court accepting an Application for parenting or property Orders, the Service can assist those parties to mediate. Mediation will often result in the parties coming to an agreement without them having to resort to Court action which can be expensive, stressful and time-consuming.

Ishar Multicultural Women’s Health Centre Inc.
Ishar Multicultural Women’s Health Centre Inc. (Ishar) is an incorporated not-for-profit organisation. It provides health and well-being services for women, particularly those from culturally diverse backgrounds, using a ‘Social Model of Health’. This means that the presenting ‘medical’ condition is not separated from the interconnections of personal, social, economic, cultural, age and gender related problems. Women are provided with information, advice, counselling, training, advocacy and/or support so they are empowered to deal with their own problems.
Because of its focus on the broader issues of ‘health and wellbeing’, the programs offered by Ishar cover a wide range of areas including therapeutic and preventative physical and mental health; carer support; exercise and nutrition; peri-natal support; education and training; parenting skills and social inclusion, all of which are developed to accommodate the special needs of women, including refugee women, from CaLD backgrounds.

Hacker promotes a fresh new look for Linkwest’s website
On 1st January 2011, Learning Centre Link – the State Association for Community, Neighbourhood and Learning Centres in WA—officially became Linkwest. The name change was the first step in a rebranding process, which included every aspect of the organisation’s external profile: logo, stationery, forms and templates, brochures, training materials…the list goes on.
Revamping the organisation’s tired-looking website had long been on the rebranding to-do list, but it wasn’t until the actions of a malicious hacker rendered the site unusable that ‘later’ became ‘now’ and the project became a top priority. That was mid-2011, and now, over seven months on, Linkwest has a fresh new online presence.
“Our priority was to have highly functional, easy-to-navigate site that would enable our members – and anyone interested in the Neighbourhood and Learning Centre movement – to find the information they require quickly.” says Linkwest Executive Manager, Jane Chilcott. “We believe our website now fulfils this role, and our soon to be released secure login area and forum will provide our members with another opportunity to network, exchange ideas and information, and download any of our range of resources.”
The Linkwest website is also a great place to start for anyone looking for a Community, Neighbourhood and Learning Centre in their area. The site includes a searchable database of their member Centres and a brief overview of the programs and services they offer. Online forms enable users to communicate with these Centres directly.

The Parent Drug Information Service (PDIS)
The Parent Drug Information Service (PDIS) offers a state wide telephone information, counselling and referral service for parents and family members affected by alcohol and other drug use.
PDIS is currently seeking new parent volunteers who have experienced problems with a son or daughter’s drug use. Parent volunteers are provided comprehensive training and on-going regular support.
The core service that PDIS volunteers provide is telephone support to parents. Parent volunteers support other parents by listening to their concerns, sharing their own experiences and discussing practical strategies. Parent volunteers are asked to commit to one 6 hrs telephone shift once a week from home.
PDIS also offers bi-monthly peer support groups in the Mount Lawley area. These are facilitated by parent volunteers. Specific training in group facilitation skills are provided to those interested in becoming peer group facilitator.
If you would like an application pack or wish to discuss the position further, please call 094710456 and ask to speak to Charlotte or Patti. If you would like to speak to a PDIS counsellor or parent volunteer please call 9442 5050.
